Master Carver Brochure
Stanley G. Jones, Sr., was Chairman of Tulalip Tribes when our canoes were being carved, and he supported all cultural activities. Herman Williams, Jr. is now Chairman. Hermie and the other Tulalip Board of Directors are very supportive of keeping our culture alive. They established a Cultural Resources Department to insure that our culture will not be lost.

JERRY JONES, MASTER CARVER, CULTURAL RESOURCES
In my job as Master Carver I have classes on: carving paddles, both large and small, comb making, drum making, etc. Some of my students used their paddles on our canoe journeys. I also teach at our Tulalip Heritage School.

I make duplicates of our cultural objects (paddles, staffs, bird rattles, boxes, etc. for Cultural Resources to display.

When requested, I along with Gene Zackuse bring our canoe to different location to display and to explain about our canoe. We tell how the canoe was carved, how important it is to our culture and how we have to take care of it for future generations.
