Master Carver Brochure II

CANOE NO.1 "Gift From Our Ancestors"
The first canoe log was chosen in February 1988. I chose two logs and one alternate log. The first one was 175 feet tall, 7 1/2 feet thick at the bottom. The overall length of the first log was 64 feet with out a knot. While loading the log the cable broke, and when it hit the ground it split in three pieces the full length of the log. The second log that I chose was hollow so I chose an alternate log that was 152 feet tall, and about 500 years old. This log was delivered in early June 1988 and I along with the help of Joe Gobin finished the canoe the first week in June 1989. The first canoe has logged 2000 nautical miles as of this date (April 2001).

CANOE NO.2 "Little Sister"
I helped the Lummi Tribe with their Canoe Project. I attended a Cedar Project Meeting at the Lummi Casino in 1996. and they told us they were offered a chance to buy two canoe logs. After hearing this I drove home and told our Board of Directors about the offer and the Board issued a check in the amount of $4750 for the two logs. I had the logs delivered to my old shop across the street by Beda?chelh/ICW. I then moved across the road to Murphy Lake Park in 1998 and made my first cut in late August. I finished the canoe in June 2000. The second canoe log was about 4'7" thick on the butt end. The second canoe has logged 470 miles on its 1st years journey.
